A serious case of alleged police negligence and harassment has emerged from the Garh Kotwali area, where a woman has accused local police of shielding a youth who threatened her minor daughter with an acid attack. The matter came to light during the 'Sampoorna Samadhan Divas' (Total Grievance Redressal Day), where the distressed mother submitted a written complaint to Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Vineet Bhatnagar.
Allegations Against The Accused
The complainant, whose husband works out of town to support the family, stated that a young man from her neighborhood has been harassing her minor daughter on her way to and from college.
Threats of Acid Attack: When the woman approached the accused's family to complain about his behavior, the youth reportedly became enraged and threatened to kill her daughter in an acid attack if she pursued the matter further.
Trauma: The mother revealed that her daughter had been silent and distressed for some time. It was only after repeated questioning by the family that the minor recounted her ordeal, leaving the family stunned.
Allegations Of Police Misconduct
The woman leveled serious accusations against the Garh Kotwali police regarding their handling of her initial complaint.
Forced Video Statement: She alleged that instead of taking action against the accused, the police forced her to record a video statement in his favor.
Intimidation: The complainant claimed that the police berated her family and threatened to imprison her if she persisted with her complaint.
Undermining Safety Initiatives: Questioning the police's commitment to women's safety, she stated that the local officers are undermining state government initiatives like the 'Anti-Romeo Squad' by protecting harassers.
Official Action
Taking cognisance of the serious nature of the allegations, ASP Vineet Bhatnagar confirmed that a complaint was received during the Grievance Redressal Day. He stated that the matter is being treated with urgency and an investigation has been ordered to look into both the harassment claims and the allegations against the police personnel involved.
