A survey conducted by Invest UP has revealed that nearly 94 per cent of the industrial plots allotted by the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) remain vacant, despite several years having passed since their allocation. The findings have prompted the state government to consider cancelling long-pending allotments and re-allotting plots to serious investors.
According to the report, YEIDA has allotted 3,476 industrial plots since launching its first scheme in 2013. However, work has not started on 3,264 of these plots. Only 15 industrial units are currently operational, while six units have been constructed but are yet to begin operations. The largest concentration of vacant plots lies in Sectors 24, 24A, 28, 29, 32, and 33, with most MSME-designated plots in Sectors 32 and 33 still lying idle.
Allottees have attributed the delay in setting up units to the lack of essential infrastructure, including roads, power supply, drinking water pipelines, and sewerage facilities.
Despite YEIDA’s earlier claims of generating employment for three lakh people, not a single unit in the proposed Apparel Park or Toy Park has started operations. In the Medical Device Park, where 101 plots were allotted, only one unit is functional.
YEIDA has reportedly issued notices to allottees to begin construction and commence operations. The authority has expressed confidence that around 100 units will become operational by December.
