The body of six-year-old Veer, who fell into the Haider Canal in Lucknow on Wednesday evening, was found on Thursday morning in the Gomti river. After an 18-hour search, his body was discovered near the 1090 crossroads, having been swept approximately three kilometers by the strong current.
The tragic incident occurred on Wednesday when Veer, a resident of the Sadar settlement, went to the canal's parapet near Ramlila Maidan to defecate. He reportedly slipped and fell into the water. Heavy rainfall in the city that day had significantly increased the flow and strength of the current in the canal, which quickly carried him away.
Immediately after the incident was reported, a massive search operation was launched involving teams from the SDRF, Municipal Corporation, police, and the fire brigade. Rescue crews worked through the night, using emergency lights, a JCB, and placing nets along the canal for several kilometers, but were initially unsuccessful.
On Thursday morning, the search teams finally located the boy's body in the Gomti river. The police have taken the body into custody and sent it for a post-mortem examination. At the scene, Veer's father, Nanhe, and his grandmother were overcome with grief and had to be consoled by onlookers. A large crowd, along with administrative and police officials, has gathered at the site, and a wave of grief has spread through the community.
