The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) is set to select a drawing and design consultant soon for the second phase of the Lucknow Metro from Charbagh to Vasant Kunj. Two major companies, Ayesa and Systra, have been shortlisted from the tender process initiated in August.
After a detailed technical and financial evaluation, one of the two firms will be finalised within a week. The selected consultant will examine key aspects of the proposed 11.2-kilometre East-West corridor, including station design, route planning, and passenger amenities. Their study will pave the way for issuing civil work tenders.
The corridor, costing approximately Rs 5,800 crore, will include 12 stations and pass through densely populated localities such as Charbagh, Aminabad, and Chowk. The project received approval from the Union Cabinet in August this year.
According to the Detailed Project Report (DPR), the corridor is expected to cater to 2-2.5 lakh passengers daily in the initial years, with ridership projected to rise to 4.59 lakh by 2035 and 6 lakh by 2041.
Topographical, sewer, and pipeline surveys along the alignment have already been completed. UPMRC had earlier extended the tender deadline once before screening the two companies. Ayesa has previously worked on Lucknow Metro’s Airport-Munshipulia stretch, while Systra has been associated with Kanpur Metro.
