Meerut Dog Killings: A case has been registered against two women for allegedly burning five stray puppies to death in Uttar Pradesh's Meerut district, officials said on Friday. According to locals cited by news agency PTI, the accused, who belong to the same neighbourhood, were allegedly frustrated by the noise made by the puppies.
The case has been filed in the Kankerkheda police station, PTI said in its report. The FIR in the matter was filed on the basis of statement provided by Anshumali Vashishth, general secretary of the Animal Care Society, Station House Officer Jitendra Kumar told PTI.
The accused women have been identified as Shobha and Aarti. Section 325 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act (mischief by killing or maiming animal) has reportedly been invoked against the duo. "Further legal action will follow upon investigation," Kumar said.
As per Vashishth's complaint, the incident took place on November 5 in Sant Nagar Colony. The complainant claimed that the five puppies were born to the same street dog. It has been alleged that the women poured petrol on the puppies and torched them alive.
A delegation representing the Meerut Vyapar Mandal reportedly met Circle Officer (CO) Daurala Shuchita Singh on Friday to bring the alleged incident to his attention. The representatives sought strict action against the accused women, PTI said in its report.
