In a move to cater to the rising number of Aadhaar applicants, the Meerut government will soon open 10 new Aadhaar service centres in the city. Once fully operational, similar centres will be set up in all 479 villages of the district.

Chief Development Officer Nupur Goyal stated that these centres will operate from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm, seven days a week, including Sundays, ensuring that residents do not have to wait long to get their Aadhaar cards.

Contractual government staff will be deployed at these centres, replacing the previous system where private individuals could operate public service centres.

While the issuance of Aadhaar cards is expected to remain free, updates to existing cards may attract a nominal fee of Rs 50. The locations of the ten new city centres will be announced shortly.

On Thursday, the owner of the private land required for the project received compensation of approximately Rs 1 crore from Meerut Development Authority (MDA) Vice-Chairman Sanjay Kumar Meina and Rajya Sabha member Dr Laxmikant Bajpai.
