The car of Yuvraj Mehta, 28-year-old software engineer who died after his car plunged into a waterlogged pit dug for a mall basement near the T-Point in Sector 150, us under spotlight following its recovery after approximately 96 hours. The car is now parked under tight security at the Surajpur Police Lines.
The police department's forensic and other technical teams are closely examining various equipment installed in the Grand Vitara car, including a voice recorder in the dashboard and CCTV camera. Beyond the police investigation, Yuvraj's close friends are also curious to know whom he pleaded with for help during the nearly hour-long struggle.
His friends have contacted the technical team of Maruti Car Company to find out what his last words were and to whom they were addressed.
Yuvraj's close friend, Pankaj, has been with the victim's father, Rajkumar Mehta, since the incident. Pankaj said he had traveled with Yuvraj in the same car several times and knows the car's features intimately. The car is also equipped with three cameras and a voice recorder. These devices are waterproof.
The car was finally pulled from the water nearly four days after the incident. While the CCTV cameras may have been damaged, the dashboard-mounted voice recorder is assured to be intact, according to the car company's technical team.
It has also been reported that data can be recovered even if water enters the voice recorder and camera. It is worth noting that the sunroof was found open when the car was pulled from the water. It is likely that Yuvraj kept pleading for help with the sunroof open until the car sank.
Currently, after removing the car and parking it in the police lines, forensic and technical teams have conducted a technical investigation. They are trying to determine the angle at which the car fell, what gear it was in, its speed, and so on.
