To reduce traffic congestion from the Delhi-Noida border to Mahamaya Flyover, the Noida Authority is constructing a 5.5-kilometre-long, six-lane Chilla elevated road along the Shahdara Drain from the Chilla Regulator. The construction has now gained momentum, and it is expected that vehicles may be able to travel at speed on the elevated road before the set deadline of December 2027.

This construction will provide direct connectivity from the Chilla Elevated Road via the Mayur Vihar Flyover to the Mahamaya Flyover, directly connecting vehicles coming from Mayur Vihar and East Delhi to the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway.

The project will also benefit travellers heading towards the Yamuna Expressway and Lucknow, along with easing travel to and from the upcoming Noida International Airport in Jewar.

The Chilla Elevated Road, connecting Delhi and Noida, is being constructed for Rs 892 crore. The construction is being carried out by the Uttar Pradesh State Bridge Corporation, while the monitoring and expenditure are being managed by the Noida Authority. The cabinet had approved the government's 50 per cent share of the construction cost on June 6, 2023. The elevated road will be constructed at Rs 787 crore.

A percentage-based charge for the construction will be paid to the Uttar Pradesh Bridge Corporation. Half of this amount will be provided by the UP government, while the remaining half will be borne by the Authority.

The Chilla Elevated Road project dates back to before 2017. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath laid its foundation stone on January 25, 2019, with the construction beginning in June 2020. The initial estimated cost of the project was Rs 650 crore.

Subsequently, work was halted in November 2021 because the 50 per cent share from the government, as per the agreement, was not received. The Authority had also invested around Rs 70 crore to start the work.

After this, the project received cabinet approval in June 2023. Following two tender processes, the Bridge Corporation selected an agency in the second tender, and work commenced in March.

The new, approved design for the Chilla Elevated Road has now been submitted to the Authority. The six-lane road will be built on 269 pillars, with 35 per cent of the pillar piling and capping work completed. Six ramps will be constructed for vehicles to enter and exit.
