Goa Nightclub Fire: The disc jockey, who was set to perform at Birch by Romeo Lane in North Goa said she was “shaken” on receiving information about the deadly fire incident on the on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday. She further told her fans via Instagram that she was “okay and safe”.

At least 25 people were killed, including five tourists and 20 staff members, after a massive fire broke out at the packed nightclub.

Mumbai-based Mita Nikki, popularly known as DJ Nicky informed her fans that she was on her way to Birch when the fire incident happened.

“Hey everyone... Just wanted to let you know I'm okay and safe,” DJ Nicky posted on Instagram.

“This incident happened on the way, before I could reach Birch Goa last night. Still shaken and heartbroken thinking about what happened. Praying for the souls we lost and for all those who are injured to recover soon. Please keep them and their families in your prayers,” she added.

What Happened In Goa?

- Among the deceased were 20 staff members and five tourists, four of whom were from Delhi. The staff members were confirmed to be from various regions, including Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, Assam, and West Bengal, along with four Nepalese nationals. Their identities have been established, Hindustan Times reported.

- Most of the victims died due to smoke inhalation after being trapped on the ground floor and in the kitchen while attempting to escape the flames.

- Firefighting efforts were severely hampered as narrow lanes prevented fire engines from reaching the premises, forcing water tankers to be stationed nearly 400 metres away.

- Chief Minister Pramod Sawant stated that the preliminary findings suggest that the nightclub had failed to comply with the basic safety norms.
