The North Eastern Railway (NER) has successfully illuminated 166 stations using solar power as part of a major push toward renewable energy. Rooftop solar panels with a total capacity of 8,036 kilowatt peak (kWp) have been installed across the network.

Key Impact And Financial Savings

In the current financial year (2025-26), up to October, the initiative has generated 3,820,000 units of solar energy. This generation has resulted in a significant saving of Rs 14,100,000 in railway revenue.

Divisional Breakdown Of Solar Installation

Solar infrastructure has been deployed across various divisions, covering stations, service buildings, and level crossings:

Varanasi Division: 2,576 kWp capacity installed at 49 locations.

Lucknow Division: 1,916 kWp capacity installed at 72 locations.

Gorakhpur Headquarters: 1,840 kWp capacity installed on service buildings.

Izzatnagar Division: 1,705 kWp capacity installed at 45 locations.

Scope Of Installation

Beyond railway stations and offices, solar panels have been installed on a wide range of railway properties, including hospitals, training centers, coaching complexes, workshops, guest houses, rest houses, auditoriums, and level crossings.
