The Uttar Pradesh government has started the process of implementing the cashless medical facility for teachers, an announcement made by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Teacher’s Day. The scheme will cover teachers in basic, secondary, and higher education, along with Shikshamitras, instructors (Anudeshaks), and mid-day meal cooks.
According to officials, the Basic Education and Secondary Education departments are preparing a detailed proposal, which will soon be forwarded to the state government for approval. Once implemented, the scheme will extend medical benefits not only to teachers but also to their family members.

Nearly 9 to 10 lakh teachers across the state are expected to benefit, though the final figures are still being worked out. At present, 3.38 lakh teachers are employed in primary schools, where over 79,000 posts remain vacant.
Similarly, upper primary schools have 1.20 lakh teachers, with 41,000 vacancies. The state also employs 1.42 lakh Shikshamitras, 25,000 instructors, and about 65,000 teachers in aided secondary colleges.
Officials said the scheme aims to provide timely healthcare support and ease financial burdens for teachers, while ensuring welfare measures announced by the government are delivered efficiently.
