A woman and her alleged lover have been arrested for the murder of her husband, whose body was dismembered using a wood grinder and the remains disposed of at multiple locations in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal, police said on Monday.

The accused, identified as Ruby and Gaurav, were arrested on December 20 and sent to jail, Superintendent of Police K.K. Bishnoi said. According to police, Ruby, a resident of Mohalla Chunni in the Chandousi area, had filed a missing person complaint on November 18, claiming that her husband, Rahul (38), had gone missing.

On December 15, police recovered a mutilated body from a drain near the Eidgah area. The body was found without the head, hands, and legs.

"The body was taken into custody, and a post-mortem was conducted. The forensic team carried out a detailed examination, and DNA samples were collected,” the SP said.

During the investigation, police found the name “Rahul” inscribed on the body. A review of missing person records at nearby police stations, along with technical analysis, revealed that Rahul’s mobile phone had been switched off since November 18.

Police said Rahul and his wife, Ruby, had been married for 15 years and had two children, a 12-year-old son and a 10-year-old daughter. The daughter’s statement proved crucial to the case. She reportedly told investigators that her parents frequently argued and that three individuals often visited their home, sometimes bringing her chocolates.

During questioning, the child allegedly broke down and hinted at her mother’s involvement, urging the police to punish those responsible.

Subsequent inquiries raised suspicion about Ruby’s role in the murder. During interrogation, she allegedly confessed to killing her husband with the help of her lover, Gaurav, after Rahul discovered their illicit relationship, the superintendent of police said.

"The accused told police that they attacked Rahul with an iron rod and an iron pestle, killing him on the spot. They then brought a grinder and cut the body into parts," Bishnoi said.

One part of the body was dumped in a drain, from where it was later recovered, while the remaining parts were taken to Rajghat and disposed of in the Ganga river, the officer said. Police have recovered the grinder allegedly used to dismember the body, along with an iron hammer and other tools believed to have been used in the crime.

DNA samples of the deceased have been preserved and will be matched with those of his children to conclusively establish his identity and strengthen the case, the SP said. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and further investigation is underway, police added.
