UP News: Hapur Couple Drinks Petrol Amid Argument; Woman In Critical Condition

In an unfortunate incident, a husband and wife drank petrol in a fit of anger following a family dispute, leaving them in a serious condition. The wife's condition is particularly critical, and she has been admitted to hospital.

A minor family dispute turned tragic on Tuesday night in the Rafiq Nagar locality of Kotwali, Hapur, when a couple, Javed and his wife Khushnuma, drank petrol in anger, causing panic among residents.

According to reports, the couple, married for eight years and parents of three children, got into an argument while having dinner. Javed, who is unemployed and reportedly struggling with alcohol addiction, allegedly assaulted Khushnuma during the argument. In a fit of rage, Khushnuma drank petrol taken from a neighbour's motorcycle. Javed also reportedly consumed petrol, leading to chaos in the area.

Residents immediately called Dial 112. Officers from the Jadid police outpost, led by In-Charge Praveen Kumar, rushed to the scene and took the couple to a nearby hospital. 

Due to the severity of her condition, Khushnuma was referred to Meerut for further treatment, where she is currently undergoing care. Javed’s condition is reported to be stable.

Station House Officer Devendra Bisht confirmed that the matter is under investigation and assured that strict action will be taken against those found guilty.
