Haripur Housing Scheme: The Haripur Housing Scheme, proposed by the Hapur-Pilkhuwa Development Authority (HPDA), will now be established in Babugarh. This welfare housing project will be developed on around 22 acres of land near the new highway. The decision was taken after earlier plans to set up the scheme near Sabli village failed due to land cost issues.

Sabli Plan Dropped Due To High Compensation Demands

Initially, HPDA had identified land in Sabli for the scheme, but the area had a high circle rate. Local farmers demanded compensation that was seven to eight times higher than the official rate, making it difficult for the authorities to proceed. Despite several rounds of discussion with farmers, no agreement was reached.

Babugarh Site Chosen After Positive Response From Farmers

Following this, the authority began looking for an alternative site and found suitable land between the old and new highways near Babugarh. Farmers in the area responded positively and a meeting was held recently with district administration officials and HPDA authorities. The meeting, held at the Collectorate auditorium, included discussions on land acquisition, compensation and implementation plans under the Uttar Pradesh Stamp Rules, 1997.

Authorities Finalise Compensation At Four Times Circle Rate

District Magistrate Prerna Sharma, HPDA Vice President Dr Nitin Gaud (IAS), ADM Finance and Revenue Sandeep Kumar and other officials were present along with local villagers. During the meeting, the authorities confirmed that farmers had agreed to compensation at four times the circle rate, which is set at Rs 1,500 per square metre.

This scheme is being taken forward under the direction of the Chief Minister, who has also asked for efforts to promote the mythological and historical significance of Hapur. The city is linked to the Mahabharata era, believed to be the place where Dronacharya trained the Kauravas and Pandavas. The old name of Hapur, ‘Haripur Nagar’, is still recalled and several yagyashalas from that period are said to exist in Pooth village near the Ganga.

Project Work To Begin Soon After Approvals

Officials confirmed that the Babugarh location was finalised based on accessibility, land availability and support from local farmers. Necessary instructions have also been issued for land-related formalities and updating the assessment list for the project.

The Haripur Housing Scheme is expected to provide quality housing and infrastructure while also supporting the government’s aim of highlighting Hapur’s cultural heritage. With the land now secured and compensation finalised, HPDA is set to begin groundwork on the project soon.
