Following Haridwar’s inclusion in Uttarakhand, the Uttar Pradesh government is aiming to develop the pilgrimage town of Brijghat in Garh tehsil as a “mini Haridwar.” A comprehensive blueprint has been prepared to advance development in the town and surrounding areas through multiple schemes, with a particular focus on projects along the Ganga Expressway and within Brijghat.
Brijghat, located on the western bank of the Ganga along the Delhi-Lucknow highway, attracts hundreds of thousands of devotees each year. Daily, thousands of pilgrims bathe in the Ganga and offer prayers at the town’s temples, while large crowds visit during Purnima (full moon) and Amavasya (new moon).

Under government initiatives, permanent ghats (pukka ghats), an aarti site (aarti sthal), and a salvation site (moksha sthali) have been constructed. In addition, the Forest Department is developing a biodiversity park, which will host a variety of trees, plants, and wildlife species.
The town is set to see an increase in visitors with the construction of a multi-level car park for the convenience of pilgrims. Plans are also underway to build a tourist facilitation centre, with the Tourism Department currently selecting suitable land. Considering the growing number of devotees, a new police station is in the pipeline, and construction of a Brijghat bypass is scheduled to begin this month.
The Ganga Expressway passes through Garh tehsil, prompting proposals for an industrial corridor spanning 130 hectares across five villages, Thera, Chuchawli, Sadarpur, and Bhaina. So far, 38 acres of land have been acquired, with the remaining acquisition in progress.
About 10 km away near Shankratila, a plaza house is proposed on 12 acres of land, expected to generate local employment and promote regional development. Tourism will also be encouraged in Shankratila and the religious town of Pooth, situated along the Ganga. Pushpawati Pooth has already been selected as a tourism village by the Tourism Department.

SDM Garhmukteshwar Shriram Yadav said that continuous efforts are being made to implement all government schemes on the ground. While work on several projects is already underway, land selection or acquisition is ongoing for others. All projects are expected to be completed in a phased manner and on time.
