Several electricity-related complaints lodged by consumers on helpline number 1912 were falsely shown as resolved on paper by employees, even though the issues remained unaddressed. The malpractice came to light during a probe conducted by the UP Power Corporation. Taking serious note of the matter, Chairman Dr Ashish Goyal has directed strict action against the guilty employees.

In a review meeting held via video conferencing from Shakti Bhawan on Tuesday, the Chairman issued several key directives. He instructed chief engineers to curb power theft, reduce line losses, and speed up bill recovery. He warned that action would be taken against officials in divisions where performance in these areas remains unsatisfactory.

The Chairman announced that “Maintenance Month” will be observed from September 15 to October 15 across the state, during which all necessary repair and upkeep work must be completed. He further directed that check meters be installed alongside smart meters to assure consumers of accurate readings.

Dr Goyal also warned that any maintenance work carried out without proper safety equipment would invite action, holding the respective Junior Engineer, Assistant Engineer, and Executive Engineer accountable. He further instructed that salaries should be released only based on biometric attendance in all offices.
