A list of 1,501 assistant teachers for science and mathematics in junior high schools aided by the UP Basic Education Council was released late in the evening. This list is connected to the teacher recruitment drive from 2016. In 2016, an advertisement for the recruitment of assistant teachers based on merit was issued.
At that time, some posts remained vacant. Seeking appointment to these vacant posts, Neeraj Pandey and other candidates approached the Supreme Court. The petitioners claimed that their merit was higher than that of the selected candidates, yet they were not given an appointment.

After hearing the case, the Court directed the Basic Education Council to complete the appointment process for the writ petitioners after verifying their eligibility. Following this, the Council has now released a list for the document verification of the writ petitioner candidates.
The verification for the candidates on the list will be conducted on January 23, 24, and 25 at the Basic Education Council, Prayagraj. Candidates must be present on the scheduled dates with all their original certificates.
