Commuters travelling between Greater Noida and Delhi are facing major inconvenience after 49 old buses of the Uttar Pradesh Roadways’ Greater Noida depot were scrapped, leading to the discontinuation of direct services to New Delhi, Old Delhi, and Kashmiri Gate ISBT.

Every day, around 1,000-1,500 passengers depend on these routes for travel related to work, business, and railway connectivity. Now, they are being forced to first reach Noida Sector-37 and change buses multiple times to reach key destinations such as New Delhi and Old Delhi railway stations.

The depot received only 15 new buses in May this year to replace the scrapped fleet, in addition to 24 received in 2023, numbers that remain insufficient to match passenger demand. Currently, 117 buses are operating on other routes from the depot.

Passengers have complained that the lack of direct public transport options has pushed them toward costly alternatives.

“There is no direct bus or metro service to Delhi. Travelling with luggage or family forces us to take cabs costing Rs 700-1,000,” said Pawan Kumar, a passenger.

Meanwhile, buses that have completed their service life are awaiting auction and currently lie unused with punctured tyres and rusting bodies, blocking movement inside the depot yard.

“117 buses are currently operational on various routes. Some buses from the Noida depot serve Delhi. We are working to restart services from Greater Noida soon,” said Anil Kumar, ARM, Greater Noida Depot.
