The safety of passengers in Uttar Pradesh’s sleeper and contract buses will be significantly strengthened. Immediate action, including impounding, will be taken against buses that fail to comply with safety regulations.

Transport Commissioner Kinzal Singh has instructed all state transport officials to implement the measures following a case registered with the National Human Rights Commission.

Key directives include:

-Removal of partition doors in the driver’s cabin of all sleeper buses.

-Elimination of sliders in bus berths to reduce accident risks.

-Mandatory installation of fire extinguishers (minimum 10 kg) in all sleeper buses, with regular inspection. Bus operators have one month to comply.

-Removal of buses whose bodies exceed prescribed chassis limits.

-Strict registration protocols: All bus registrations must use forms 22 and 22A, with prior approval from accredited testing agencies. Registration requires detailed bus layout drawings, including measurements, doors, emergency exits, and roof hatches.
