The deadline for developing Uttar Pradesh’s first Medical Device Park (MDP) in YEIDA’s Sector 28 is likely to be extended by one year, as key infrastructure work, including laboratories, is yet to be completed. While the central government had set March 2026 as the deadline, the project may now be completed by March 2027.
Spread over 350 acres, the Medical Device Park has already seen the allotment of 101 plots, with one manufacturing unit becoming operational last year. The Centre has sanctioned a grant of Rs 100 crore for the project, under which 13 laboratories are to be established. However, no laboratory has been set up so far.
Although the construction of the lab buildings is nearly complete, the agency responsible for procuring equipment and operating the labs has not yet been finalised. The tender process for lab equipment is currently underway, while an agreement with the Board of Radiation and Isotope Technology for the Gamma Radiation Lab, scheduled for January 9, has been postponed.
ACE CEO Nagendra Pratap said that during an online meeting with the Secretary of the Union Department of Pharmaceuticals on Wednesday, the remaining work on the project and the release of pending funds were discussed. Considering the scale of unfinished work, YEIDA has requested an extension of the deadline to March 2027. Representatives from Medical Device Parks being developed in Madhya Pradesh and Tamil Nadu also participated in the meeting.
So far, the central government has released around Rs 60 crore to YEIDA in two instalments. Before the third and final instalment is released, YEIDA will need to spend at least Rs 3 crore from the funds already received. Securing the final instalment before the end of the current financial year is crucial for the Authority.
The Medical Device Park is expected to focus on the manufacturing of electronics-based medical devices, which will help reduce dependence on imports and lower treatment costs.
YEIDA is also making efforts to attract companies involved in cancer treatment equipment manufacturing. As part of this initiative, a delegation led by YEIDA ACE CEO Shailendra Bhatia visited Bengaluru last month and held meetings with CEOs of several companies to showcase the potential of the MDP.
