Those planning to celebrate New Year’s Eve by driving under the influence or at high speed should exercise caution, as the Transport Department and Police have tightened enforcement across Dehradunb.
Special checking teams equipped with speed guns and breath analysers will be deployed from the morning of December 31 to curb drunken and reckless driving.
According to RTO (Enforcement) Dr Anita Chamola, joint enforcement teams will be stationed at major traffic corridors, including Mussoorie Road, Rispana, Haridwar Bypass, Saharanpur Road, Chakrata Road, Sahastradhara, Raipur, Maldevta, Thano, Lachhiwala, Rishikesh, Raiwala, Nepalifarm, and Bhaniyawala.
Dr Chamola warned that strict action would be taken against violators. Under the Motor Vehicles Act, anyone found driving under the influence of alcohol may face up to six months of imprisonment, a fine of Rs 10,000, and cancellation of their driving licence. Offenders violating traffic rules on New Year’s Eve may also be taken into custody.
The Transport Department will conduct this special drive in coordination with the police to ensure public safety and prevent accidents during the festive period.
