The Uttarakhand administration has issued the public holiday calendar for 2026, declaring a total of 28 holidays. No additional holidays have been announced this year. However, offices following a five-day work week, including the Secretariat and the Legislative Assembly, will observe only 25 public holidays.

According to the notification issued by the General Administration Department, two of the declared holidays fall on Sundays and two on Saturdays. Banks and treasuries will observe 23 public holidays during the year.

The notification also clarifies that District Magistrates are authorised to declare up to three local holidays in a year based on regional significance. However, the Secretariat and the Legislative Assembly will remain open on such local holidays.

The list of public holidays for 2026 includes Republic Day (January 26), Maha Shivratri (February 15), Holika Dahan (March 3), Holi (March 4), Eid-ul-Fitr (March 21), Ram Navami (March 26), Mahavir Jayanti (March 31), Good Friday (April 3), Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Jayanti (April 14), Buddha Purnima (May 1), Eid-ul-Adha (May 27), Muharram (June 26), Harela (July 16), Independence Day (August 15), Eid-ul-Milad (August 26), Raksha Bandhan (August 28), Janmashtami (September 4), Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti (October 2), Dussehra (October 20), Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti (October 26), Deepavali (November 8), Govardhan Puja (November 10), Igas-Bagwal (November 20), Guru Nanak Jayanti (November 24), and Christmas (December 25).

In addition, Cheti Chand (March 19), Vishwakarma Puja (September 17), and Guru Tegh Bahadur’s Martyrdom Day (November 24) will be observed as holidays across the state, except in the Secretariat and the Legislative Assembly.
