In view of potential snowfall in high-altitude areas of Uttarakhand on Friday, the Public Works Department has gone on alert. The PWD has instructed officials and field staff in all districts to ensure that roads do not close during the snowfall and that public movement is not affected under any circumstances. The department states that its priority is to maintain road connectivity in Uttarakhand even during snowfall and to ensure that people do not face difficulties.

Priority Routes: Char Dham And Essential Services

PWD Secretary Pankaj Pandey stated that as soon as snowfall begins, the primary focus will be on main roads. The Char Dham route, roads connecting district headquarters, hospital and ambulance routes, and routes for police and essential services have already been identified. Teams have been asked to be ready for immediate action on these roads.

Deployment Of Machinery And Safety Resources

PWD Chief Engineer Rajesh Sharma said the department has also been asked to ensure the deployment of machinery in sensitive areas. JCBs, Poclain excavators, and other heavy machinery will be on standby so that snow removal and road clearing work can commence. Additionally, instructions have been given to maintain an adequate stock of salt and sand to reduce slipperiness on the roads.

Surveillance And Emergency Response Strategy

Officials have been instructed to increase surveillance in areas where routes are frequently closed due to snowfall every year. During the snowfall, responsibility should be assigned for each section so that upon receiving information of a road closure anywhere, a team can immediately reach the spot and clear the route. Instructions have been given to keep information on alternative routes ready for any emergency.
