Following the severe damage caused to roads across Uttarakhand during this year’s monsoon, the Transport Department has begun a comprehensive initiative to restore and enhance road safety. Using the Road Safety Fund, the department will repair damaged signage, reflectors, parapets, and crash barriers that were destroyed in landslides and heavy rains.
The state’s hilly terrain makes roads a vital lifeline for transport and connectivity. However, this monsoon has left many routes in a dangerous condition, disrupting daily life and travel safety. Recognising this, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has set a deadline of October 31 to complete all road repair work across the state.
To ensure safe travel, the Transport Department has ordered a detailed survey of all major routes to identify areas where road safety infrastructure has been damaged. Once the reports are received, the identified locations will be repaired on a priority basis.
Additional Commissioner of Transport, SK Singh, said that the monsoon has caused extensive damage to roads and safety installations.
“A comprehensive survey is being conducted to identify broken safety features like signboards, reflectors, and crash barriers. The concerned departments will be directed to carry out urgent repairs using the Road Safety Fund,” he said.
Officials said that alongside road restoration, emphasis is also being placed on improving visibility, installing new signboards, and strengthening safety infrastructure to prevent accidents in the coming months.
