Indian Biryani vs South African Biryani: For countless people in India, Biryani is like the ‘god of foods’. So you can only imagine the heavy reaction that an influencer, Pushpek Sidhu, received after he made a weird food comparison in one of his videos, Indian Biryani vs South African Biryani. Yes, holding each one of them in his hands, the man tried both dishes and named the Indian Biryani the winner. But what made the post viral, was that as per netizens, most people believed the winner was already ‘decided’.
There were a few who instead advocated for the South African Biryani, somewhat dividing the reactions. And just to clarify, for those unaware, the South African Biryani is not actually biryani but is basically a dish called the Peri Peri chicken rice. The video went viral almost instantly.
The post was shared on social media platform Instagram, by the handle ‘Pushpek Sidhu’. The post was captioned, “Indian Biryani vs South African Biryani.”

Taking to the comment section, people shared their take. “Bro learn how to eat like Indian?” a user said. “As an Indian from South Africa, I can assure you all that Indian South African biryani is better. We include the same spices, however ours has more meat and potatoes in it. We cook with more masoor and pure butter which gives our biryani a richer taste. I’ve tasted biryani from India, it is mostly flavoured rice, and the meat isn’t flavourful really,” added a second person.
“Bro just needs excuses to have Indian food, might as well make a video,” added a third person. “I love your content. And no, some South African food is not that great. Their sausage, I forget the name, is not too yummy. Bland and has no flavor. Ethiopian food is amazing as well. Most African nations have great food. I’m excited to watch. Peace,” commented a fourth person.
