Online users have shared a video of Pakistan's security officers forcing a man off a stack of shipping containers during a protest. The incident happened on Tuesday as thousands of supporters of former Prime Minister Imran Khan gathered in Islamabad to call for his release from prison, according to The BBC.
Mr Khan has since cancelled the protests after top aides said that the incident was one of other instances of police abuse during the protests. Armed officers reportedly "brutally pushed him off from a height equivalent to three storeys" after approaching the man who was praying on a container, according to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
The video shows a man appearing to pray on top of a 25-foot-tall tower of shipping containers built to prevent demonstrators from reaching their destination. Security forces are then seen pursuing him to the top, cornering him, and shoving him over the edge.
According to The Independent, the man's condition remains unknown. A PTI official stated that the party is still probing what happened to him.
Meanwhile, protests in Pakistan have been underway for several days. The conflicts during the protests killed at least six persons, including four security officers and two civilians. On Wednesday, Islamabad police announced that 600 demonstrators had been arrested following Tuesday's raid, raising the total since the protest sit-in began to above 1,000.
Imran Khan's party marched toward Islamabad on Sunday, asking that the jailed leader be released. Protesters stated that they would not leave the capital until Mr Khan, who is imprisoned on many criminal accusations, including fraud, was released. However, as they approached Democracy Square on Tuesday, they were forced back by police firing tear gas.
On Wednesday, the PTI said that the protests had been "temporarily suspended" owing to the "government's brutality". It stated that Pakistani government troops had "launched a violent assault" on nonviolent protestors, "firing live rounds with the intent to kill as many people as possible". The party also alleged, without giving evidence, that dozens of its members were slain during the crackdown and called for an investigation.
