Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has reportedly cancelled his planned visit to the United States next week after failing to secure a meeting with President Donald Trump. The development comes amid reports of growing differences between Trump and Netanyahu, who had earlier worked together on military action against Iran.

White House Did Not Confirm Netanyahu Meeting

According to a report by Axios, Netanyahu wanted to meet Trump during his US visit, but the White House never confirmed the meeting or added it to the president’s schedule. White House officials told Axios that Netanyahu did not receive a clear rejection, but he also did not get a positive response from Trump’s team. "Our impression was that Bibi was trying to make a meeting into existence," one of the officials said.

Trump Reportedly Angry Over Netanyahu’s Remarks

The report has sparked discussions over whether everything is alright between the two leaders. It further suggests that the disagreement over the possible meeting came days after Netanyahu appeared on Fox News before Trump’s trip to Ankara for the NATO summit. During the interview, Netanyahu criticised Trump’s plan to sell F-35 fighter jets to Turkey. A White House official told Axios that Trump was “'pissed off” by the interview. Another official said Trump felt "Bibi had no right" to weigh in on that issue.

Intelligence Report During Trump’s Turkey Visit

During Trump’s visit to Turkey, Israel provided intelligence to the US about an alleged threat from Iran. Israeli and US officials said the intelligence suggested that a senior Iranian official had discussed trying to kill Trump while he was in Ankara. The information led the Secret Service to take extra security measures, including changing Trump’s flight to the older Air Force One aircraft.

However, some US officials said the intelligence was based on a single source and was not confirmed. "It was more aspirational than operational," one of them said. According to two sources, Turkish security officials also investigated the matter and found no evidence of a specific assassination plot against Trump in Ankara.

Growing Differences Between Trump And Netanyahu

The report comes as Netanyahu faces criticism in Washington from both Democrats and close aides of Trump. Several US officials, including Vice President JD Vance, have accused Netanyahu of making overly “rosy” predictions about the Iran war that did not happen. Furthermore, on Wednesday, 103 House Democrats voted to cut USD 3 billion in US aid to Israel, marking a major criticism of the Israeli government. During an appearance on Joe Rogan’s podcast, Vance criticised some members of Netanyahu’s government, accusing them of trying to weaken the Trump administration’s Iran policy and extend the war.
