Epstein Case Takes New Turn: In a striking development surrounding Jeffrey Epstein’s death, newly released records show that a US attorney’s statement dated 2019 was drafted a day before the convicted sex offender died. The draft appears among the latest files released by the US Department of Justice.
More than 23 files in the disclosure are identified as statements issued by the US Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York. One of those documents is dated August 9, 2019. Jeffrey Epstein was discovered dead in his Metropolitan Correctional Center cell in Manhattan the next day, on August 10.

One such document, titled “Statement of Manhattan US Attorney on the Death of Defendant Jeffrey Epstein”, is attributed to Geoffrey S Berman, who was serving as Manhattan US Attorney at the time. The statement notes that officials at the Manhattan Correctional Center reported finding Epstein unresponsive in his cell, after which he was declared dead.
"Earlier this morning, the Manhattan Correctional Center confirmed that Jeffrey Epstein, who faced charges brought by this Office of engaging in the sex trafficking of minors, had been found unresponsive in his cell and pronounced dead shortly thereafter," it read.
The world knows that Epstein killed himself in a New York jail cell, a month after he was indicted on federal sex trafficking charges.
In 2008 and 2009, Epstein served jail time in Florida after pleading guilty to soliciting prostitution from someone under the age of 18. At the time, investigators had gathered evidence that Epstein had sexually abused underage girls at his home in Palm Beach, but the US attorney's office agreed not to prosecute him in exchange for his guilty plea to lesser state charges.
