Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has caught the attention of Indian social media users after sharing what many are calling a “Jhumka Moment”. While Meloni made remarks about Italy’s national interests and responded to her critics in the Instagram post, her selfie caught the attention. She shared a photograph of herself wearing long, traditional-style dangling earrings known as Jhumkas, which are widely popular in India.

Sharing the photo, Meloni stated that no government propaganda could dictate their actions or “preach lessons of consistency or freedom.” She added that Italy would continue to act independently, guided only by its national interest, and not be influenced by outside pressure.
She wrote in the caption: “By its very nature, a diligent regime propagandist cannot give lessons in either consistency or freedom. But these caricatures certainly won’t make us change course. We, unlike others, have no strings, no masters, and take no orders. Our compass remains one and only: the interest of Italy. And we will continue to follow it with pride, much to the chagrin of propagandists far and wide.”
Netizens Praise Italian PM’s Look
The image quickly went viral and received widespread appreciation from Indian users. Many users shared Bollywood references, GIFs, and comments celebrating her “desi” look, with one even referencing the popular song “What Jhumka.” Others asked her about the earrings and whether she got them from "Bareilly."
A user said, “Earnings are from Delhi haat.” Another user wrote, “Tere kaano me hai jo baali... Tune kiski khaatir daali..?” A third user added, “Awesome earring.” Many users even praised her look, calling her extremely “gorgeous.”
While her “Jhumka” moment has gone viral on social media, Rome has also taken a serious diplomatic step by summoning the Russian ambassador. The move came after a Russian television presenter Vladimir Solovyov made a series of insulting remarks against PM Meloni. He remarked that Meloni was a "disgrace to the human race" a "wild beast" a "certified idiot" and a "nasty little woman."
