A newly surfaced video has captured the final moments of Dipu Chandra Das, a Hindu Bengali garment worker who was lynched last week in Bangladesh’s Mymensingh region. The footage, released by Bangladeshi news broadcaster Jamuna TV, shows a mob gathering outside a large blue door, shouting and waiting as people inside appear to prepare to hand Dipu over. Moments later, Dipu is seen being taken away by the crowd. He was later beaten to death, according to local media reports.
Citing local and eyewitness sources, Bangladeshi Bengali media outlet Barta Bazar reported that Dipu was accused of making derogatory remarks about Islam and Prophet Muhammad during an event at a garment factory marking World Arabic Language Day. The allegations allegedly spread rapidly within the factory and surrounding areas, fuelling anger and tension.
Brutal Lynching And Aftermath
According to multiple reports, an enraged mob attacked Dipu soon after the accusations surfaced. He was beaten brutally and reportedly died on the spot. Reports further allege that the violence continued even after his death. The crowd allegedly carried his body to the Square Masterbari bus stand area, tied it to a tree with a rope, beat it while chanting slogans, and later set it on fire.
The mob then reportedly moved the body to the Dhaka–Mymensingh highway, where it was set ablaze again, disrupting traffic and spreading panic among local residents. Some reports also claimed that Dipu was stripped naked after the lynching, tied to a tree, and burned.
Bangladeshi author and activist Taslima Nasreen also reacted strongly to the incident, resharing the video on her X account and condemning what she described as institutional and mob complicity in the killing.
In her post, Nasreen alleged that Dipu Das was taken directly from his factory and handed over to the mob despite posing no threat. “Deepu Das was taken away directly from his factory by these Hindu-hating Muslims. Deepuhad committed no crime. And even though the manager knew that hungry vultures were waiting outside, he opened the door without informing the police,” she wrote. She further claimed that rumours were spread by “jihadist workers,” following which the floor manager allegedly forced Dipu to resign.
Allegations Against Police
Several reports have alleged that Dipu was handed over to the mob by police personnel along with his floor manager. However, there has been no official confirmation of this claim so far.
Confirming the incident, Bhaluka Upazila Executive Officer Md. Firoz Hossain said a person was killed over allegations of insulting the Prophet, adding that the body of the deceased is currently in police custody. A duty officer identified as Mia earlier told BBC Bangla that on Thursday around 9 pm, an angry crowd caught Dipu and beat him to death before setting the body on fire.
