Israeli ambassador to India, Reuven Azar, has said that the ongoing military action against Iran was beneficial and a necessity for many countries, including India, as in the coming years, Tehran could have taken such steps which would affect their long-term interests.
Speaking to the media in New Delhi, Azar said that Iran was planning a major attack on Israel by 2027 and was also strategising to increase its influence in the region by destabilising the existing structure of the Gulf and Arab countries.
According to a report by Jagran.com, Reuven Azar said, "If this had happened, it could have had a serious impact on millions of Indians working in the Gulf countries and India's strong economic relations with these countries."
"Imagine what Iran could do if it had a nuclear arsenal. We've seen how it has attacked its neighbours. If the United States and Israel hadn't acted now, the situation could have become much more serious in the future," Azar said.
Azar said the current move is important not only for the US and Israel but also for the entire world and countries trading with West Asia.
The Israeli ambassador said that after military action, the door should remain open for diplomacy. He said that in the past few days, there have been ongoing diplomatic dialogues with the US and several countries in the region.
On the question of Israel improvising and shifting goals in the ongoing war, Azar said Israel has been firmly fighting for its three goals since the beginning, "There is no shifting of the goal post. We have stated, at the outset, that we have three goals - to neutralise the nuclear threat, to neutralise the ballistic missile threat and to give the Iranian people an opportunity to embrace the future by degrading the capability of the forces of oppression inside Iran...So, we are doing exactly that."
"Nothing has changed in terms of our aims...We will make sure that after this war is over, the Iranian regime cannot reconstitute these plans," he added.
