Iran-Israel War: Iran has claimed that its missiles struck Israel’s largest oil refinery in Haifa, a facility connected to both India and Israel, in an attack that could result in significant economic and military losses for Israel. Earlier on Saturday, air raid sirens had sounded in the Haifa area, but no reports emerged from Israel indicating any damage.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) confirmed that it targeted the Bazan Group oil refinery in Haifa Bay on Saturday using Kheibar Shekan solid-fuel ballistic missiles.

The IRGC stated that the attack was in retaliation for recent US-Israeli strikes on Iran’s energy sector.

Iran alleged that these attacks included strikes on oil depots near Tehran. Videos of the aftermath have been circulated by the Tehran Times and RT, though The Daily Jagran could not independently verify their authenticity.

Iranian officials declared that the missile strike on the refinery was meant as a response to Israeli attacks on Iranian oil storage infrastructure.

The refinery, operated by the Bazan Group in Haifa Bay, is Israel’s largest oil processing plant. Reports suggest it provides approximately 50 to 60 percent of Israel’s domestic fuel. This site was also targeted in an Iranian missile attack in June 2025, which resulted in the deaths of three workers, left dozens injured, and forced the refinery to close for several months.

This move comes after Iran’s President has stated that the country will respond decisively to American and Israeli attacks.

“We will respond forcefully to the American and Israeli attacks and will not surrender,” said the Iranian President.

How Will It Affect India?

The link to India comes from the fact that the Haifa Port, which is adjacent to Israel's largest oil refinery, is 70 per cent owned by India’s Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ). While the refinery itself is Israeli-owned, its proximity to the Haifa Port means India has significant economic interests in the area, particularly in the transport and logistics sectors.

Amid the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran, the Adani Group confirmed on March 2, 2026, that its Haifa port operations remain secure, despite the heightened tensions. This strategic connection makes the Haifa refinery relevant to India, as any disruption to port operations could affect Indian business interests.

Thus, media reports frequently link the refinery to India due to its adjacency to the Haifa Port, which plays a critical role in trade and logistics involving both countries.
