Iran-US War: Amid the ongoing crisis in the Middle East, the United States has further reinforced its military presence in the Gulf region. The US military confirmed that the aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush has arrived in West Asia.
The US Central Command said in a post on X that the warship was operating in its area of responsibility in the Indian Ocean on April 23. Images released alongside the update showed a large number of fighter jets positioned on the carrier’s deck.
With this deployment, the number of active US aircraft carriers in the broader Gulf region has risen to three:
- USS Abraham Lincoln, already deployed in the Arabian Sea
- USS Gerald R. Ford, operating in the Red Sea region
- USS George HW Bush, now moving in from the Indian Ocean
Why is this deployment big?
The USS George H W Bush took a longer route via the Cape of Good Hope at the southern tip of Africa, avoiding the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandeb Strait, where threats from Houthi rebels remain high.
The move comes amid heightened tensions with Iran, concerns over the security of the Strait of Hormuz, and growing fears of a wider regional conflict.

The simultaneous deployment of three aircraft carriers is a rare and strong signal from the US Navy, significantly boosting its capabilities for airstrikes, maritime security operations, and surveillance.
US defence officials maintain that the deployment is aimed at ensuring regional stability and maintaining readiness for any rapid response. However, ongoing tensions with Iran and its allied groups continue to fuel concerns about the risk of a broader conflict in West Asia.
