Israel is going to honour the legacy of Maratha warrior king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj by installing a grand statute in a major Israeli city. Israel's Consul General in Mumbai, Yaniv Revach made the announcement during the Shivrajyabhishek Din (coronation anniversary) celebrations last week.

Israel To InstallShivaji Maharaj's Statue

The project is considered a symbolic gesture aimed at strengthening cultural ties and deepening people-to-people connections between India and Israel. It also highlights shared historical values of resilience and nationhood. Speaking to news agency ANI, Revach emphasised that the project will connect Indians with Israelis.

What's The Motive?

Highlighting the deep emotional resonance of the Maratha ruler among India, Revach stated the project goes far beyond a typical monument. “We understand exactly what the influence is and how important Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is to India... The idea is to build a big statue of the Maharaj and send it to Israel. It would be more than just a regular project, but it's going to be a project for the long run. And the Indian people will also be connected to the Israeli people through this project. We plan to bring it to one of the big cities in Israel,” Revach said.

He added that Israel has requested assistance from Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis regarding historical references and design for a new statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj to be installed in Israeli city. Revach noted that CM Fadnavis has agreed to provide the necessary support.

Earlier, in a letter to CM Fadnavis, the Israeli diplomat explained that the statue would symbolise the close relationship between Israel and India. He noted that the monument is especially meaningful because of the historical connections between Maharashtra and the Indian Jewish community, many of whose descendants now live in Israel and contribute significantly to its society.

Maharashtra CM Extends Support

Maharashtra CM Fadnavis also expressed happiness over this special project, calling it a “huge” news. In a post on X, he asserted that the state government will provide full support in completing the project. Fadnavis wrote on X, “This is huge news! On the auspicious occasion of #ShivRajyabhishek din, heartfelt thanks to Isreal CG @yanivrev for this historic announcement of installing a grand statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Israel. Maharashtra Govt will extend complete support for this historic initiative. Jai Bhavani, Jai Shivaji.”
