Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his visit to Israel’s Knesset on Wednesday, highlighted the Palestine issue. The PM expressed his support for the Trump administration-led Gaza Peace Initiative by calling it a “just and durable” solution for the region.
“The Gaza Peace Initiative, which was endorsed by the UN Security Council, offers a pathway. India has expressed its firm support for the initiative. We believe that it holds the promise of a just and durable peace for all the people of the region, including by addressing the Palestine issue. Let all our efforts be guided by wisdom, courage, and humanity. The road to peace is not always easy, but India joins you and the world for dialogue, peace and stability in this region,” PM Modi said.
What is the Gaza Peace Initiative?
The current Gaza Peace Initiative refers to the Comprehensive Plan to End the Gaza Conflict, a 20-point roadmap introduced by former US President Donald Trump in October 2025. The plan is currently in Phase II, following an initial ceasefire period after the recovery of the final Israeli hostage remains earlier this year.
During his speech, the PM emphasised India’s commitment to dialogue, peace and stability in West Asia and said that he is the first Indian Prime Minister to address the Israeli Parliament.
He noted that the initiative has received endorsement from the UN Security Council and offers a structured pathway toward peace. Referring to the ongoing turmoil in West Asia, PM Modi reiterated that India stands with Israel during challenging times.
The Prime Minister also referred to the Abraham Accords, praising Israel’s “courage and vision” in pursuing normalisation agreements in the region. “It was a moment of new hope for our long-troubled region. Since then, however, circumstances have changed significantly, and the path has become more challenging,” he said.
PM Modi received a standing ovation as he began his address and was conferred the “Speaker of the Knesset Medal,” described as the highest honour of the Israeli Parliament. The award recognises his personal leadership in strengthening strategic ties between India and Israel.

PM Modi added, "India's connection to this land (Israel) is also written in blood and sacrifice. During the First World War, more than 4,000 Indian soldiers laid down their lives in this region. The cavalry charge at Haifa in September 1918 remains a significant chapter in military history.
