Pakistan has stepped up its military presence in Saudi Arabia under the Joint Strategic Defence Agreement signed between the two countries last year. The deployment includes around 8,000 Pakistani troops, along with fighter jets, air defence systems and anti-drone capabilities stationed in the Kingdom.
The move is aimed at strengthening security coordination and improving readiness amid continuing tensions in the Middle East. According to News18 citing sources, the deployment also involves nearly 16 fighter aircraft, primarily JF-17 jets jointly developed by Pakistan and China. These aircraft were reportedly sent to Saudi Arabia earlier this year along with surveillance and operational support systems.

JF-17 Jets, Air Defence Systems Deployed
Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Defence confirmed on April 11 that a Pakistani contingent has arrived at King Abdulaziz Air Base in the Eastern Sector under the bilateral defence pact. The ministry said the arrangement is intended to boost joint military cooperation, improve combat preparedness and support stability in the region.
As per the report, Security sources in Saudi Arabia suggest that personnel from Pakistan’s Army, Air Force and Navy are working alongside Saudi forces as part of coordinated operations. Pakistan has also reportedly deployed air defence systems such as the LY-80, FM-90 and Anza missile systems, operated by its personnel on Saudi soil.
There were also reports of Pakistan Air Force IL-78MP aerial refuelling tankers and cargo aircraft moving on March 1, indicating possible logistical support and reinforcement activity linked to the deployment.
The development comes at a time of heightened tensions in the Middle East and reflects the growing defence partnership between Islamabad and Riyadh. Pakistani officials have maintained that the cooperation is focused on strengthening mutual defence and contributing to regional stability in the Gulf.
