Bangkok Floods: Heavy rains have flooded parts of Bangkok, forcing the residents to find unique ways to carry on with their daily lives. In one flooded area outside a shopping mall, locals have turned a waterlogged street into a temporary floating market. Sellers are using floating platforms, small boats, and foam boxes to display and sell fresh fish, vegetables, and other items.

Locals Create Floating Market

According to local media reports, buyers are also adapting to the unusual situation as some are walking through the floodwaters, while others are using small boats or paddling between the makeshift stalls to shop. Videos of the floating market have emerged online, offering a glimpse into how people in affected communities are coping with the floods. The Daily Jagran has not independently verified these videos.

Water Expected To Recede

Bangkok was declared a disaster-affected area on Saturday after heavy rain caused widespread flooding across the Thai capital. Videos showed cars struggling through flooded streets and several roads completely covered with water. However, water levels have now started to fall in some areas. According to Reuters, the Thai government on Tuesday said standing water in Bangkok could take around two to three days to clear if there is no further heavy rainfall.

Officials added that no major rain was expected in the coming days. The Thai capital had received around 320 mm, or 12.6 inches, of rain over two to three days last week. The flooding has caused an estimated USD 320 million in damage and affected transport and other services across the city.

While Bangkok's main airports continued operating despite the severe weather, flooding caused major problems with baggage handling at Suvarnabhumi Airport. Meanwhile, Thai Airways cancelled eight flights on Tuesday due to flooding and aircraft rotation issues. It warned that further changes could follow.
