A captivating video has gone viral on social media showing advanced Chinese humanoid robots dressed in traditional Saudi garments performing the Al-Ardah sword dance. The robots performed the dance at a National Day reception hosted by the Chinese Embassy in Riyadh on Tuesday. The event was attended by Riyadh Region Mayor Prince Dr. Faisal bin Abdulaziz bin Ayyaf and Chinese Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Chang Hua.

Humanoid Robots Perform Traditional Dance

The video, which has emerged online, shows the robots executing the cultural folk dance with remarkable precision while wearing attire like the thobe and ghutra. According to reports, this unique performance served as a powerful symbol underscoring the growing technological and cultural cooperation between Beijing and Riyadh. As the video went viral, it received mixed reactions from netizens who were left stunned by the performance.

Netizens React To Viral Video

A user wrote, “The sword dance is a whole vibe but the robots moving smoother than most humans at weddings is the real story here.” Another user wrote, “Uh okay maybe in the future all the dances we enjoy will be performed by robots.” A third user wrote, “China's technology is on other level.” A fourth user commented, “This so disrespectful. Why didn’t the Chinese dress the robots in Chinese attire and make them perform traditional Chinese dance.” One more user added, “WTF, Chinese are going crazy with humanoid robot.”

China's Growing Footsteps

The display comes at a time when China has been rapidly emerging as a global leader in mass-producing affordable humanoid and industrial robots. From laboratory prototypes, the robots have been quickly shifted for commercial deployment. According to a BBC report, there are more than two million robots working in China's factories across the country. Interestingly, this number is more than anywhere else.

Earlier in August, it was reported that China had shipped more than 40,000 humanoid robots in the first half of this year. By doing this, it lifted its share of global shipments to 97 percent. The data was revealed in the 2026 Humanoid Robot Industry Development Report, which was officially released at the 2026 World Robot Conference (WRC) in Beijing on August 20.
