BRICS Summit 2026: Chinese President Xi Jinping will arrive in New Delhi on Saturday to attend the BRICS summit, his first visit to India in nearly seven years. He is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with PM Modi on the sidelines of the summit on Saturday. When Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning was asked how China views the Modi-Xi meeting, she said at a media briefing that this would be the third consecutive year that the two leaders would meet, after Kazan and Tianjin.
'We Will Continue To Be Good Neighbours And Partners'
Asserting that China is willing to work with India based on the strategic guidance of the two leaders, she said China will manage bilateral relations from a strategic and long-term perspective, promote dialogue and cooperation to properly handle differences, and move forward as good neighbours and partners who help each other.
China's Stand On BRICS Summit
Regarding the BRICS summit, Mao said it has become a major platform for solidarity and cooperation among emerging markets and developing countries. Since its inception, BRICS countries have maintained the spirit of openness, inclusiveness, and mutual benefit (win-win cooperation). She further stated that BRICS is committed to common development while upholding multilateralism, fairness, and justice. Today, it stands at the forefront as the voice of the Global South, Mao added. China attaches great importance to BRICS and actively participates in its cooperation activities, she said.

It will mark the third consecutive year that the two leaders would meet, following their meetings in Kazan and Tianjin, according to Xinhua," Global Times reported in an X post.
Why Is Xi Jinping's Visit To India Important?
President Xi's visit to India is considered crucial for normalising relations between the two major Asian powers and strengthening BRICS cooperation amid global turmoil. Previously, Xi visited Mamallapuram in 2019, Goa in 2016, and Delhi in 2014 to hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Xi's visit is also significant as it comes amid India and China's efforts to normalise relations after a prolonged standoff following the eastern Ladakh standoff of 2020.
