Two women from Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, were killed in a horrific road accident in Melbourne, Australia, on Thursday after their Toyota Corolla collided with a Porsche at a suburban intersection. The victims have been identified as 67-year-old Rama Devi and her 33-year-old daughter-in-law, Neha Bommali.
Mother And Daughter-In-Law Killed
According to reports, Rama had recently travelled to Australia with her husband, GT Prasad, a former Joint Secretary of the Visakhapatnam District Cricket Association (VDCA) to visit their son, spend time with their grandchildren, and attend an upcoming family function. The two women were traveling with Prasad when the tragic accident occurred on Palmers Road in Point Cook.
While Rama and Neha died on the spot, Prasad survived the car crash. Nearby residents who rushed to the scene told 7NEWS that the impact of the crash was devastating, leaving them helpless despite their immediate efforts to assist the victims. One eyewitness recounted hearing a massive, loud noise before running outside to find the Porsche smashed into the orange Toyota Corolla.
Witness Recounts Tragic Collision
According to the witness, the driver of the Porsche emerged from his vehicle and lay flat on his back immediately after the collision, prompting onlookers to urgently call for police, fire, and ambulance services. “I heard a big, loud noise of an impact, and immediately I just ran outside and saw a Porsche colliding into an orange Toyota Corolla. As soon as I saw, the driver from the Porsche came outside and laid on his back. I called ambulance, fire and police,” the witness said.
The driver of the Porsche was identified as a 53-year-old man from Point Cook. He sustained minor injuries and remained in hospital as of Thursday. Meanwhile, Varun Chandra Gunna, son of Rama Devi and husband of Neha has started a GoFundMe campaign to help repatriate their bodies to India.
“On September 16, 2026, my world was completely shattered in a single instant.While traveling in our Toyota Corolla, my beloved wife, Neha Bommali, and my 67-year-old mother, Rama Devi were killed instantly when the vehicle they were travelling in was involved in a horrific car accident. In one devastating moment, I lost the love of my life and my mother. My 75-year-old father, Tulsi Prasad, lost his lifelong companion. Most heartbreaking of all, my two innocent children lost their mother and grandmother,” Gunna stated.
