A man was mauled to death by a tiger after entering its enclosure at Yorkshire Wildlife Park in England, prompting a police investigation. The incident occurred on Saturday at the wildlife park near Doncaster, with authorities working to establish how the man entered the enclosure and the circumstances that led to the fatal attack.

South Yorkshire Police received reports at around 1.35 pm that a man had entered the tiger enclosure, the BBC reported. He sustained serious injuries in the attack and was pronounced dead at the scene despite efforts by emergency medical personnel.

"Emergency services attended and sadly, despite the best efforts of medical personnel, the man was pronounced dead at the scene," police said in a statement.

The man's identity has not been made public. Authorities confirmed that his family had been informed of his death. Police also appealed to the public not to circulate a distressing video purportedly showing the man inside the enclosure shortly before the attack.

It remains unclear how the man gained access to the enclosure or what prompted him to enter it. An investigation is underway to establish the sequence of events leading to the incident.

Tiger unharmed

The tiger was not injured and remained inside its enclosure throughout the incident, police said. Authorities also confirmed that there was no wider risk to the public.

Following the attack, the wildlife park was evacuated. Police officers remained at the scene on Saturday evening as investigations continued.

In a statement published on its website, Yorkshire Wildlife Park announced that it had closed following a serious incident involving the tiger enclosure. The park said it would remain shut until Sunday.

“We are working closely with the authorities to ascertain exactly what happened,” the park said.
