Russia-Ukraine War: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said he would travel to Miami for the G20 Summit in December if Russian President Vladimir Putin attends, raising the possibility of their first face-to-face meeting since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Asked by DW correspondent Misha Komadovsky on Friday whether he would go to the summit if Putin were present, Zelenskyy confirmed his willingness to attend, emphasising that results from any talks are what matter.
"Yes, of course. We have to come. We have to meet, to speak and make decisions," Zelenskyy said.
"It's not about words. What I will tell him or what he wants to tell me, it doesn't matter. It doesn't matter. [...] Results matter. That's it," he added.
The Kremlin has yet to confirm whether Vladimir Putin will attend the December G20 summit in Miami. The Russian president has not attended a G20 leaders' summit in person since 2019.
US Envoy Visits Moscow And Kyiv
US negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner recently visited Moscow following a phone call between US President Donald Trump and President Putin that the Kremlin described as "extremely frank".
In the Deutsche Welle interview, Zelenskyy said that the envoys' visit to both Kyiv and Moscow was a "good signal" and a sign of respect.
Zelenskyy also announced plans to meet Trump in late September amid renewed push from Washington for fresh face-to-face talks between Moscow and Kyiv.
Asked about Ukraine's stance ahead of potential talks, Zelenskyy noted that heavy Russian casualties and slow territorial gains have strengthened Kyiv's standing.
"Ukraine now is much stronger than last year on the battlefield," he said, adding, "That's why we think that we now have a good position for negotiations."
