Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan yet again raised the Kashmir issue during his address at the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday. Asserting that the issue “should be addressed through dialogue”, he called for the solution of all dispute in South Asia through talks within the framework of the United Nations Charter.

“In South Asia, it is important that all disputes, including the Kashmir issue, be addressed through dialogue within the framework of the United Nations Charter and of relevant resolutions,” The Turkish President said during his address at the UNGA, in New York.

'Re-Engaging with Asia Initiative'

Meanwhile, through our Re-Engaging with Asia Initiative, we continue to develop our relations with our partners in the Asia-Pacific, Erdogan said. "We view the elevation of our relations with ASEAN to the Dialogue Partnership level as a concrete outcome of this approach, he added.

Erdogan Refered To Kashmir Issue In 2025 UNGA Address

Last year too, Erdogan referred to the Kashmir issue in the UN General Assembly and said his nation was "pleased" with the "ceasefire" between India and Pakistan after a period of conflict earlier this year. He said it is important to see cooperation between India and Pakistan on counter-terrorism.

"The issue of Kashmir should be resolved on the basis of resolutions of the UN for the best for our brothers and sisters in Kashmir, through dialogue, we hope," he said.

"In South Asia, we consider the preservation of peace and stability to be of utmost importance. We are pleased with the ceasefire achieved following the tensions last April between Pakistan and India, the tension which had escalated into a conflict," Erdogan said.

In recent years, the Turkish leader has referred to the issue of Kashmir in his address to world leaders at the high-level UN General Assembly session.

India Rejects Any Role Of Third Party In Kashmir Issue

Meanwhile, India on several occasions firmly restated its position on Jammu and Kashmir, making it clear that the matter is strictly bilateral and does not require involvement from outside parties.
