US Midterm Election Results: The results of the US midterm elections have been a major setback for President Donald Trump as Democrats registered historic victories, including in the strongholds of Republicans. One of those seats was Ohio, where entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy was contesting as a Republican candidate. With Trump's endorsement and flashy campaign, he was considered the favorite, but Democrat Amy Acton defeated him to become Ohio's first Democratic governor in the past 20 years.

Vivek's Controversial Advertisement

A massive row escalated when Vivek shared an advertisement during his campaign, featuring Acton's mother, who called her daughter a liar and urged the voters to not elect her. The Republican candidate was massively criticized by the politicians from both the parties and some prominent personalities of the region. However, the top leaders, President Trump and VP JD Vance, backed Vivek during this time.

While the ad was removed with a week remaining in the polls, it caused damage to Vivek's campaign as Acton presented herself as a candidate who focused on the larger issues rather than personal attacks.

Did Trump's Endorsement Backfire?

The overall results of the midterm election suggest dissatisfaction with Trump's decisions, especially after the price surge of key entities following the Iran War. While Trump endorsed Vivek Ramaswamy, the Republican candidate failed to raise the issues of Ohio in his campaign. The Republican Party faced a humiliating defeat in several of the seats where Trump had got massive support during the presidential elections.

Democrat's Campaign

Acton is a former director of the Ohio Department of Health and first came to prominence during the COVID-19 pandemic. During her campaign, Acton raised the issues related to the healthcare in Ohio, which largely resonated with the voters. Her speeches on education affordability, childhood traumas, and struggle in the later years were appealing in comparison to Vivek's expensive and aggressive campaign.
