Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday arrived in Indonesia, the first leg of his three-nation tour. In a special gesture, PM Modi was received at the airport by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto.

Fighter jets from the Indonesian Air Force also escorted the Prime Minister's aircraft from the moment it entered Indonesian airspace.

The F-16 and the Sukhoi-30 are among the world's most widely recognised fourth-generation fighter aircraft, serving in the air forces of several countries.

Shortly after landing in Jakarta, PM Modi said in a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) that he was deeply impressed by the manner in which President Prabowo Subianto welcomed him at the airport.

"Landed in Jakarta. I'm touched by President Prabowo Subianto's gesture of welcoming me at the airport," Modi said in a social media post.

"In 2018, we elevated our relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership, which has benefitted our people," Modi said.

He added, "President Prabowo and I will visit the Prambanan Temple complex in Yogyakarta. This will ensure closer cultural linkages between our nations. While in Indonesia, I also look forward to interacting with the Indian community."

Indonesia announced in March that it had reached an agreement with India to purchase the BrahMos cruise missile system. The Philippines became the first foreign buyer of the BrahMos missile system after signing a deal worth around 375 million USD in 2022.

This is PM Modi's first bilateral visit to Indonesia since the two countries elevated their ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2018.
