Iran has intensified efforts to protect country's infrastructure amid United States President Donald Trump’s warning to destroy power plants and bridges if it doesn’t reopen the Strait of Hormuz by Tuesday. The regime has urged its civilians, including youth, artists and athletes, to form human chains at power plants across the country to denounce a potential US-Israeli strike on April 7.
Iran Calls On Youth To Form 'Human Chains'
Iran’s Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Alireza Rahimi, in a video message, called on students, artists, and athletes to form human chains around power plants at 2 pm. He regarded it as a symbolic and physical attempt to deter potential airstrikes following Trump’s Tuesday deadline. He stated that Iranians “will stand hand in hand” to propagate the message that attacking public infrastructure is a “war crime.”
Asking the youth across the country to form human shields, he emphasised the need to protect what he described as their “wealth and belongings.” He said, “This action has been formed at the suggestion of the youth themselves…A number of university youth, young artists, and youth organisations proposed that we form a human ring or human chain around the country's power plants.”
What's Behind The Move?
According to him, the symbolic action is called the “Human Chain of Iran's Youth for a Bright Future.” He emphasised that this chain would reflect the youth’s commitment to protecting the country's infrastructure and “building a bright future.”
The development comes amid Trump’s stark warning that a massive bombing campaign aimed at "each and every one" of Iran's electric generating plants and bridges would be launched if the strait is not reopened. On Monday, he asserted that the US’ goal would be to leave facilities "burning, exploding, and never to be used again" within a four-hour window.
During a White House, Trump asserted that the “entire country could be taken out in one night, and that night might be tomorrow night.”
