The US Department of War on Friday released a large batch of declassified files from the Pentagon and FBI on Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP). The release of files after years of secrecy has sparked renewed public discussion about UFO sightings and Cold War-era investigations. The documents include old reports, memos, and eyewitness accounts that have gained widespread attention.
Strange ‘Crewmen’ Claims In Declassified Files
Among the most discussed is an FBI memo from October 19, 1966, titled “Unidentified Flying Objects”, which stated that “1965 was the year of the greatest number of UFO sightings.” The memo described reports of objects moving at “fantastic speeds” and interfering with electronic systems. It also includes eyewitness’ claims about sightings of strange “crewmen” seen during the 1960s.
The memo stated that “a few witnesses have reported seeing crewmen who had landed from the objects.” These figures were described as “three and a half to four feet tall, wearing what appear to be space suits and helmets.” The documents also mention claims of crashed UFO debris being recovered, including unusual metallic fragments and tiny spheres. However, the files do not confirm any extraterrestrial origin or verify these claims.

Another referenced source in the memo, the book “Flying Saucers- Serious Business” by Frank Edwards, suggested UFOs were “space vehicles sent to observe activities on earth.” The author claimed that the US Air Force had withheld information to avoid panic in public.
US Releases Secret UFO Files
In a press release, the officials noted that this is the most extensive declassification effort of its kind, allowing citizens to view videos, photos, and documents without security clearance. Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth said the files had long been classified and surrounded by speculation, and that their release marks a commitment to openness.
"The Department of War is in lockstep with President Trump to bring unprecedented transparency regarding our government’s understanding of Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena. These files, hidden behind classifications, have long fueled justified speculation and it’s time the American people see it for themselves. This release of declassified documents demonstrates the Trump Administration’s earnest commitment to unprecedented transparency," Hegseth said.
