US-Iran Tensions: Amid ongoing diplomatic talks, US President Donald Trump has suggested that a change in leadership in Iran would be the "best thing" that could happen. While confirming an additional American military deployment in the Middle East, the US president stated that thousands have died due to a delay in the diplomatic talks. Trump confirmed the deployment of a second US aircraft carrier group to West Asia by asserting that they "might need" to use the force if the talks fail.
"It seems like that would be the best thing that could happen," Trump said while addressing the reporters after visiting troops at Ft Bragg, North Carolina. While expressing frustration with the delay in talks, the US president stated that thousands have lost their lives in the region. "For 47 years, they’ve been talking and talking and talking," Trump asserted.
"Legs blown off, arms blown off, faces blown off. We’ve been going on for a long time," he added. However, he refused to name any alternative for the current leadership in Tehran by stating that "there are people". The US president further stated that immediate military action is not in the picture currently; however, Washington is ready for escalation if the talks fail.
Earlier this week, Trump met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to discuss the ongoing situation; however, he stated that “nothing definitive” was reached during the talks. "There was nothing definitive reached other than I insisted that negotiations with Iran continue to see whether or not a deal can be consummated," Trump wrote in his post on Truth Social.
"If it can, I let the Prime Minister know that will be a preference," he added. "Last time Iran decided that they were better off not making a deal, and they were hit with Midnight Hammer - That did not work well for them. Hopefully this time they will be more reasonable and responsible," Trump asserted.
