US-Iran War: The tensions between the United States and Iran severely escalated on Saturday after Tehran launched several drones towards the Strait of Hormuz. As per the US Central Command (CENTCOM), the US forces shot down at least four aircraft of Iran in response. The authority stated that the response was necessary to prevent further escalation. The US officials stated that Tehran could have targeted the commercial vessels passing through the strategic chokepoint or the American military assets present in the region.

The US forces, after intercepting the Iranian drones, launched an attack on Tehran's coastal surveillance radar sites at Goruk and on Qeshm Island. In its statement, the CENTCOM stated that the Iranian attack posed a threat to regional maritime traffic, adding that the US forces remain vigilant to respond to any such aggressive move.

"Moments ago, CENTCOM forces shot down four Iranian one-way attack drones that were launched toward the Strait of Hormuz. The attack drones posed an immediate threat to regional maritime traffic," CENTCOM said in its statement.

"US forces subsequently struck Iranian coastal surveillance radar sites in Goruk and on Qeshm Island to defend against further attacks. American forces remain vigilant and postured to respond to unjustified Iranian aggression in self-defence," the authority added.

The recent escalation near the Strait of Hormuz is likely to affect the ongoing truce talks between the two nations. Earlier this week, Tehran had launched missile and drone attacks at the US bases in Bahrain and Kuwait, prompting a swift response from the American forces.

Earlier on Friday, US President Donald Trump stated that Iran is just left with 21-22 per cent of its missile arsenal. He stated that the US forces have destroyed much of Iran's military infrastructure in the ongoing conflict. "I would say percentagewise, maybe 21-22 per cent of their missiles. It’s a lot of missiles, but it’s not what it was when we first attacked," Trump was quoted as saying by NBC News.
