US-Iran Conflict: The United States military on Friday attacked several drone and missile storage facilities of Iran after Tehran's alleged attack on a commercial ship passing through the Strait of Hormuz. In its statement, the US Central Command stated that the forces also targeted the Iranian coastal radar sites. The attack was the first major escalation days after the US and Iran signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU).
'Violated The Ceasefire'
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the US Central Command stated that Iran had "violated the ceasefire" by targeting the ships passing through the critical chokepoint. "The unwarranted aggression against commercial shipping by Iranian forces clearly violated the ceasefire," said the US Central Command. It described the attack as "a powerful response to yesterday’s attack on a commercial ship that was transiting the Strait of Hormuz."
Iran Responds To Fresh Attack
While responding to the attacks, Ibrahim al-Fiqar, official spokesperson for Iran's Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, said that Tehran will retaliate at the appropriate time. In a series of posts on X, he asserted that any further aggression will be met with a harsh response.
"We affirm that this aggression will not go unanswered, and we will choose the appropriate time and place. We warn that any further act of folly will be met with a harsh response that will shatter the illusions of the aggressors in the region. No retreat… Our response will shake the earth to its core, and will erase your military presence as if it never existed," Al Fiqar said in his post.
Iran Attacks US Military Positions
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) later claimed that it too launched strikes on the US military positions in the region in retaliation. However, the IRGC did not specify which US military sites it targeted or provide details of the operation.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump stated that Iran had breached the ceasefire understanding by attacking the commercial ship passing through the Hormuz.
